Red 1940's Tea Dress

This red tea dress from Vivien of Holloway has been in my wardrobe for years and years now.  The colour has faded, and I've made the odd repair over time, but I still love it!  I wore this to my Dad's birthday last month.  Elvis came along too.

  1. Sadly my shape and their sizing are not a happy mix. To find something that fits my waist means I have so much spare fabric at the bust and hips it's pointless. I am just not a vintage shape!

  2. How splendidly lovely!!! One needs tea dresses like this red charmer aplenty come summertime, when longer skirts and sleeves are just too stifling. I really like this VOH frock and how you've styled it, complete with one seriously cool Elvis bedecked bag.

  3. I just bought 2 dresses and a halterneck top from VOH last week, they arrived this Thursday :D I got myself a navy blue circle dress and another light blue cupcake dress. :) They seem made very good, but sadly the cupcake dress is larger than the navy blue (I guess it's the fabric, the other is sateen and the cupcake is cotton) and has lots of spare space in my bust, although according to their sizing my measurements should fit the dress perfectly with waist and top. The navy dress has some space too, but it is actually what their sizing promises, the cotton dress and the top are larger than they are meant to be. Because of the lining and structured bones I don't know how I can take some fabric in, but since I don't have sewing skills i'll let my tailor decide :D They are wearable with belts, but the bust is too large still. So weird since I bought everything in same size, but I guess from now on I'll stick with sateen and just assume that one actually sticks to the size charts.

  4. I've tried to buy a dress from VoH before but my body was too short for it... As were my legs! I feel like they're geared at taller women than me :( this dress is just perfect on you though :) x

No, haven't ever tried a Vivien of Holloway dress, though I see they go for quite a bit of money on Ebay. xxx

  14. What a darling dress! And your purse! I love it!

As for Vivian of Holloway and purchases, I've been tempted by them, but only recently acquired one of their pieces, though second hand. And so far I've had no quality issues. Sometimes it takes time though for flaws to become apparent.

  17. Ok, that Elvis purse is so perfect with this look. The only way it could have been better is if your brogues were made of blue suede.

  19. You are such a pretty girl, honestly. I love your hair in these photos because it suits the dress perfectly. The whole look makes me think sexy stewardess, but without being overly costum-y or fake. The faded red of this dress is probably what makes it so pretty, almost a pink coral that goes really well with your shoes.

    BTW love the back drop!!!

  20. I am in love with your shirt-dress and retro Elvis bag. Also great Oxford Shoes. Your dress has sort of a 40s diner vibe to it too, and the color is perfect Porcelina. =)
