Best of 2017

Here we are on New Year's Eve, and I'm thankful to have made it through another year.  Last year I did a roundup of my best outfit posts, so I thought I'd do the same this year.  Except this year I'm showing my favourites, not those that were viewed most.

The arty ones
I admit that I love the slightly arty ones best, where my husband shows off his amazing photography skills.  They are staged, with the outfits put on specifically for a shoot.  They involved driving or running around various locations, trying to get the right light, dodging snow showers and heavy rain, and re-shooting when things didn't work out the first time.

Fun memories
The other category of my favourites revolves around outfits that I wore whilst having a splendid time.  These photos were all taken on a day out somewhere, where we just happened to have the camera with us and took a few snaps.  We had so many vintage-related adventures in 2017, from the wonderful Jazz Age exhibition at the American Museum in Bath, to a birthday day out to Dinefwr, and a trip to an Art Deco National Trust house in Weymouth.

Everyday
Finally, some of my favourite 'everyday' outfits.  These include items I wear very regularly, such as a black pinafore dress, a coral '60s cardigan, and some grey swing trousers from Heyday.  These items are on repeat frequently!

We're seeing out 2017 in a slightly different manner this year - instead of starting on the cocktails we'll be heading out to the world famous Nos Galan race, a mere 10 miles away in the neighbouring valley.  We won't be competing (all 1,700 tickets to run sold out within minutes), but we'll be joining a 10,000 strong crowd to cheer on the runners.  If there's one thing the Welsh do well, it's creating an amazing atmosphere around sporting events!

Wishing you all a very Happy New Year!

  2. Your husband does have a way with a camera and has taken some really beautiful photos this year. Most of them look like they belong in a magazine.

Props to you guys for making the effort to get out and find the location that is best for the shoot.

    Happy New Year!

Too bad you can't get in on the run. That really would have been a different way to start off the New Year. Enjoy cheering for everyone else.

  4. It seems like you had a wonderful year! It's been delightful to read about all of your fun little trips to different historical sites, and I really admire your commitment to being stylish while doing it. I think my favorite of these has to be "Waiting at the Estuary" - that shot is just stunning!
Happy 2018! I can't wait to see what the new year brings for you.

    1. Happy 2018 Jessica! I hope you and Brian have had a good start to the year. Ha, 'commitment to being stylish' is probably more about 'fear of dying before I get to wear all the clothes'!! x

Good, I'm glad you like the everyday - I worry sometimes that it's boring?!

    2. I suppose it wouldn't be so good to see the same thing over and over, but I bet most of us have a few everyday outfits that we love that never get an airing on our blogs. And the occasional one makes a blogger feel more real.

(Nothing puts me off a blog faster than someone posting loads of outfits, rarely the same thing twice, where companies are clearly giving them stuff for free. I don't care how good it looks, I'm not reading their dratted adverts! That stops me reading far sooner than repeated outfits.)

    1. I know the feeling Kara, I haven't read half as many blogs as I'd like to in 2017, it has just been too much to keep up with. I have just found you on Instagram though so hopefully I can see more of your fabulous dress collection in 2018!

  15. The snow photos were beautiful! You do the arty ones so well, I’m glad you enjoy them and there’ll be more :) you really put me to shame with how much you got out and about last year! Although I’m not sure adding a puppy into the mix is going to help my 2018 adventures ;) happy new year! xx

    1. Well, you did have the small event of a wedding last year, so going out and about probably wasn't a priority. At least with Bobo you'll always have an excuse for walkies - you have some lovely countryside in your part of the world to explore! xx

  16. What a great roundup of your posts! The photo of you in your Welsh Wool cape is definitely my favourite but I loved seeing all your other ones. The one of you with the gingham dress on and lavender in the background is beautiful. Happy new year! xx
