Denim Dress & Metallic Brogues

Tights don't make me feel very Spring-like but they're so essential!  It was bitingly cold in the wind on this Irish train platform, so I am afraid that bare legs weren't an option.  I do try and wear slightly lower denier tights when it gets to spring and summer, and in colours like navy and soft grey, as it helps to counteract all the black that my legs are clad in for the rest of the year.  I think that's my biggest wardrobe woe living in a cold climate - I get bored of tights.  As much as I like seamed stockings and tights for a more vintage look, I am incapable of getting seams straight as arrows without assistance, and I can't afford a ladies' maid to help dress me each morning.  I'm afraid it's boring and very non-vintage tights most days.

I love this denim dress.  I have worn it over and over, and some of the edges are starting to get a little frayed.  It works well on a weekend away because you can wear it more than once with a different top underneath.  Generally I avoid dresses when I have to pack lightly, as they take up a little more space than separates if you're only wearing them once on your trip.

These photos were taken at a train station in Ireland on my weekend visit a few weeks ago.  It was quite the adventure, I have so much to write up and lots of photos to edit!

  1. That's very cute, and I look forward to hearing all about your trip to Ireland. It looks like great weather!

I live in chunky opaques in winter. I stick my fingers straight through sheer tights - I learned the hard way not to buy the expensive seam-patterned ones from What Katie Did.

    1. I too am a bit too heavy-handed with the really delicate hosiery, I even managed to destroy some 'practically indestructable' tights in under 30 seconds...x

  2. I love that little denim dress. I can see why you'd wear it all the time.

Can't wait to see the photos from your trip.

  4. I completely agree on dresses and going away - some bloggers go on about how they take dresses because they're a way to feel 'put together' when you're travelling light, but all I see is the space it's taken up that separates I can mix and match can have! Anyway, I love this little dress. I actually have a real thing for denim dresses. I've never understood why, but I really, really want them all. I've only allowed myself to ever own one and if I'm honest I'm too fat for it, but oh how I want more... Because you're right, if they're sleeveless like this you can put them with other things and the possibilities are endless! xx

    1. And don't get me started on travelling with big '50s style dresses and the petticoats - you can fill an entire case with just one outfit!! xx

  5. Gorgeous legs! What a fun outfit. Maxi dresses are ace 'cos I don't have to worry about tights - thermal leggings and socks in the winter and bare legs in the summer. When I do wear short dresses its opaque all the way. I can't go near anything less than 60 denier - years of horrible corporate dress codes mean I loathe anything sheer, shiny or flesh coloured. xxx

    1. Sheer went really out of fashion for a while didn't it? I think sheer was still worn when 'Friends' started on TV, but then Sex and the City came on a few years later, must have been in the late 1990s, and sheer was suddenly out. I think you've got something there with the maxi dresses, my recent leg injury has prompted me to start looking a bit more about maxis, so handy for covering a gammy leg!! Most maxi skirts on the high street are ankle-flappers for me, so I am on the look out for a nice vintage one. xx

  8. I love the purple-denim-purple combination - it's really fun! I actually try to keep tights going for as long as I can, sometimes almost through the whole summer - they hide a multitude of sins and make me feel fully dressed. I know what you mean about seamed tights. I found that practice made better but definitely not perfect and constant vigilance is needed! (I also find stockings easier although I tend to keep them for occasions). K x

  9. A fun denim dress, I can see why you want to keep wearing it. I would be so miserable if I had to wear tights all the time since I have such a hard time with colored tights. I would just end up wearing black ones all the time. I do wear patterned tights like polka dots, argyle or houndstooth but it has been black/sheer.

Thank you for joining TBT Fashion link up and hope to see you next week. Have a great weekend!
