On Saturday it was a gorgeous sunny morning so we went to the car boot sale in search of treasure. I found some great things, for some reason there was much more '70s clothing than usual, and although a few marvellous maxi dresses were the wrong size for me I did take home two very flammable looking nighties. I also picked up the film 'Bobby' which is set in the late '60s and is about the assassination of Bobby Kennedy, can't wait to watch that one. Clothing-wise, I also bought a top and skirt set, a cheongsam dress with a baggy waist (onto the sewing pile it goes...) and two would-have-been-expensive shift dresses from Hobbs and Whistles. Finally, I found some illustrations of women's costumes that came from a book, very interesting drawings that all seem to have that Victorian silhouette of the wasp waist and pigeon chest, regardless of what era they're supposed to be set in. They were only 50p so I couldn't resist.
We watched Eurovision on the Saturday night, I always enjoy it but I'm not sure it was enjoyed by the professional musician in the household. High standards you see. It was an excuse to eat a Greek salad, drink some Spanish wine and nibble French cheese anyway.
On Bank Holiday Monday there was a vintage 'extravaganza' at the Millennium Centre in Cardiff so we headed down for that. There were classic cars on show outside, vintage stalls inside, and a programme of live music. I bought a pair of cat-eye sunglasses and a tomato red '60s slip. We were delighted to see Darren winning the best-dressed male competition, and he bought a nice denim jacket with his winnings.

I wore a 1940s inspired look. The brooch, bag and gloves are vintage but the rest is either repro or just high street.
What did you all get up to over the weekend? Did you watch Eurovision too?
I watched Eurovision! I quite liked the UK entry, but it would've been helped by better dancers - it didn't feel as much fun as it could have, had it had a perkier performance and some serious swing going on around it.
ReplyDelete(Were you tempted to nick the pink car? It's gorgeous!)
My thoughts exactly on the UK entry, the two singers were incredibly stiff and static, when they should have been legs and arms akimbo! I think anybody attempting to steal the pink car would be swiftly found, it's hard to be inconspicuous in such a vehicle... x
DeleteI looooove Eurovision! I'm a mega-fan, for sure. Fortunately, so is James and it's one of the things we bonded over (I like to think it might be one of the reasons we became a couple, ha). The singers just weren't strong enough perforrmers and the song wasn't good enough - we never stood a chance. I thought Sweden were a worthy winner though, and I was all set to propose to the beautiful singer until I found out he's homophobic. Dreams = dashed. Anyway, your weekend looks like it was great fun! And I forgot to ever say anything about the CD you gave me. I am dreadful whenever anyone recommends I listen to something or gives me music - apologies. I did listen to it though - what a talented man you have! Impeccably produced too (James said, and having once been in a band himself he likes to tell me these things). Anyway, I went to the coast at the weekend as I think I mentioned before and it wasn't as freezing cold as I was fearing, so hurrah! I also went to one of my best friend's engagement parties, which was awesome. Not a bad bank holiday all round :) xx
ReplyDeleteAw I'm pleased you love Eurovision too!! It's fun to tweet/text my friends who are watching it the same time as me with comments, I'll include you next year.
DeleteThanks for the kind comments on my talented man! (I'm biased!), and glad you didn't freeze too much at the coast.

Oooh! That pink car! And you were both dressed wonderfully for the event. Very spiffy indeed.
ReplyDeleteI got sick over the weekend. Joy joy.
bisous

I know, we've seen it before at other events, it's really fabulous. Hope you feel better soon xx
DeleteSounds like you had a lovely, vintage filled weekend, those cars are fantastic! I went to Wiltshire and did lots of vintage shopping too!

I also love Eurovision I even made Himself rush back to our hotel to watch it when we were on holiday last year!
ReplyDeleteIt's a bit addictive isn't it?! xx
DeleteAre you trying to tell us that you weren't the best dressed lady? Lies, lies I tell you!
ReplyDeleteLooks like you had a whole lot of fun. I don't actually watch Eurovision (although I remember being really amused by Lordi winning in 2006), but I love checking out the costumes and sets and stuff when sites in the US recap it afterwards. It's just such a spectacle, and we don't really have anything like that here.
I know, injustice or what?! Ha!! xx
DeleteYou both look great, and that sounds like a fun weekend!
ReplyDeleteI watched Eurovision round at a friend's accompanied by plenty of wine - our commentary got ruder the more we drank! xxx
Eurovision is impossible to watch without alcohol! x
DeleteYou both look fabulous, someone should lend you that car for your wedding!
ReplyDeleteI didn't realise anyone watched Eurovision until I checked Facebook and everyone seemed obsessed. Not my kind of thing at all - bah humbug! xxx
How fabulously fun! I love your 1940s inspired look - and I just have to say, your legs go on for absolute miles in that chic ensemble.

I was there as one of the Lindy hoppers! Nice to know you had fun :-)
