I took my new camera out in the winter sunshine and gave it a whirl! Well, I set it up but I wasn't the one pressing the button. I am going to share these photos even though I got some of the settings wrong, as you can help witness my learning curve. I should also correct what I said in an earlier post, it's not a compact-system camera, because you can't change the lenses, it's just a fancier than normal compact camera. It definitely feels like a step up for me anyway, and even if the future I get a DSLR, this can be my new everyday camera.
I still haven't read the instruction manual, so I guessed at the settings and it turns out that the exposure was too high, I didn't adjust the focal length properly for each shot, and the pictures all came out square. The black and white was intentional at least.
Dress: Jaeger, via outlet
Boots: J Shoes
Coat: Vintage C&A
Sunglasses: Dorothy Perkins (via car boot sale)
Bag: Zalando (won!)
Lots of practice needed, and I probably should read the instructions before I go ANY further...
I just bought a new camera too! I do have a DSLR already but u just never have it on me at the right time, plan to sell it actually, my new little compact will hopefully bring just that little more colour to the blog! I think these are great, those boots and sunglasses are amazing, brave to get your legs out in January - braver than me, I just look like I've been attacked by knitwear until spring! ;) x
ReplyDeleteOo I look forward to seeing some of your pics with the new camera then! And I have to confess the legs weren't bare - I had 40 denier grey tights on, so some covering! X
DeleteI like the photos, very artsy! Especially the one with the sun peeking out behind your face - it's beautiful.
ReplyDeleteGreat outfit, I LOVE your coat!
It's a coat I keep coming back to, I love the texture. And it was free, I love clothes cast offs from friends and family!
DeleteI would never have guessed these weren't meant to look like this if you hadn't told me. I think they look really nice, very artistic! There's something 70s and cool about these.
ReplyDeleteYay for playing with new cameras! That's the next thing on my list, I think a big chunk of my tax return is going to go to a nice, mid-level DSLR.
You lost me on DSLR, I'm afraid! Great photos, though. Love black and white photography, much more depth and interest. xxx
ReplyDeleteHappy New Year my dear! What a fun way to start 2015....I often believe that exploring is the best learning experience, so much better than a manual! Have a good start of the year!

I love the square photos and I love the depth of the focus on the first shot. Hope you have fun learning about your new camera! :)
ReplyDeleteAh cameras... I took my new Christmas present lens and DSLR out today and my photos all, without exception, came out underexposed and out of focus. I seem to spend a lot of my life editing sharpness and exposure back into photos lately... but yours here don't look as dodgy as mine did - as Jessica above says, it looks like they're intended to be like this! I'd say half the fun is learning to use new camera equipment, but almost a year into having a DSLR I'm definitely at the point where I wish I could wave a magic wand so I take amazing pictures now!! x
ReplyDeleteIt is harder than you'd think - so many factors you have to allow for all at once, on TOP of making sure there are no silly facial expressions!! Talk abouit multi-tasking. Your photos are always great though, great camera you've got and I'm sure time will help you get more to grips with it. I'm thinking of joining a photo club! Xx
DeleteThe photos look great, the flare and slight overexposure look really good actually, and black and white is always so stylish.
ReplyDeleteI sometimes dream of getting a better camera and learning all about it, but in reality, I know I wouldn't - I just want to point and press! xxx
I agree I like the photos too, I do have a DSLR and trying to work my way through the manual at the moment. Loving your style! #streetstylesunday
ReplyDeleteYou look wonderful...love the light in the pictures, it's gorgeous :) Thank you for visiting me doll, I hope you have a great week :) xx
ReplyDeleteThese black and white photos are great! What a nice look.
ReplyDeleteI love the B&W I always think images look much more striking when there is no colour! Despite you not being happy with the exposure I think it really adds to them, it really capture the strong winter sun!
ReplyDeleteIn retrospect they're not bad, but they were just now what I was going for on the day! Oh well, inadvertently arty is ok I guess! X
DeleteI like your shots, the black and white is nice to look at, love your boots and happy 2015!
