Gingham Dress With Coral & Mint

Apparently gingham is really on trend for Spring and Summer this year. Correct me if I'm wrong, but isn't it always on trend? All of the gingham in my wardrobe is 'past season', from years and years ago if I'm honest. Some years they call gingham 'picnic check', or bring out different colours, in an attempt to get you to buy this year's offerings. But you can wear whatever old gingham you've got in your wardrobe and I bet unless you work at Vogue (in which case you aren't reading this anyway) that nobody will know it's old. That's part of the beauty of being a fan of vintage styles. They never go out of fashion if they're classics. And you don't have to frantically 'update' your wardrobe every season. That must be exhausting. So, this is an old dress that I've shown previously on the blog.

It felt so good to be out in the sunshine, and to actually take my cardigan off (even though I'd only just bought it the day before, brand new with tags on for £2.99!).  It had been chilly earlier that morning when we were out charity-shopping in a different town further down the valley, and then on the drive home the sun came out and it was really quite warm.  Sunshine always makes outfit photos look better, so we made a quick pit-stop at the nearest available waste-ground, next to a Toby carvery, to take a few snaps before continuing home.  I'm glad that I got the chance to wear something so summery, because the next day, the wind direction changed and it was so cold I had to wear my ski jacket to do a spot of weeding in the garden!

I'm curious to know about other bloggers' photo habits - are you an opportunistic outfit snapper, or do you always plan your photos in advance?  And what do you think about the same old 'trends' being trotted out each year yet marketed as though they're completely new?

I wore this dress last with pink wedges and my dog cardigan, you can see that post here.

  1. Yep, gingham is in every spring, quelle surprise! I'm not complaining though when something I love is re-marketed and hits the shops again every year. I don't care what's trendy anyway, I just want new pretties I like ;) I think it's difficult being an opportunistic snapper when you work full time - I generally keep on top of he weather forecast all week and try to pick out the less windy, rainy and cold day to be the one we got some photos in. It helps me to know which day they'll be on so I don't have to bother so much with my hair and makeup the other one, heh. I actually much prefer overcast days for photos though - I took a batch in the bright sunshine yesterday and they've not come out as well as the ones I've been doing on cloudy days. Harsh lighting and weird shadows... But yours here look great so I'm clearly doing something wrong!! Have a lovely Sunday xx

    1. Morning!! Gosh you're an early bird for a Sunday!!
I hear you about the weather - it makes me feel so resentful when it's a gorgeous day and I'm in work. I know a blogger who works nearby so I'm considering we start a sunny-day-lunchtime-photo-club??
I'm on holiday in Ireland so I should be asleep too but I'm too excited - last day today,

    2. I'm an early bird everyday - this is what happens when you get up for work at half 5 in the morning; lie-ins become an impossibility!! That sounds like a great idea about a lunchtime photo club. Enjoy Ireland - jealous! xx

  2. Gingham, double denim and the nautical look are trotted out by the fashion mags every year, aren't they?
That dress looks fab and I love your hair in bunches! Me in my 70s gingham maxi is my profile picture on Google. I bought it from a car boot sale for 50p 5 years ago and still adore it.
Planning photo locations? Never. I've always got my camera in my bag and occasionally I'll ask Jon to take a photo if we're out and about and passing somewhere interesting. xxx

  3. Sometimes my photoshoots are spontaneous but mostly they are planned: I know what time of the day is best for taking photographs and what days I am free at that time and so, I plan accordingly. I agree that gingham is always in, whatever the name they give to this print. Your dress is so pretty!

  5. Yep...so true...you'd think they'd just invented gingham when they declare it the newest "trend". It is such a classic and I adore the dress on you and your pig-tails.

Unpredictable weather is why I've often been taking photos inside. We had 2 nice days and now it is back down to only 10 C. I missed my two days to get outfit shots done.

  6. Lovely! Such a great neckline, I found a very nice dress like this but it was halter neck which severely limits bra options so had to leave it in the charity shop xx

  7. Can't beat gingham when the sun comes out! This is a perfectly classic gingham dress and it looks great with both of the different colors of cardigans. It really works as a neutral despite being a pattern. As for outfit photos, I usually plan them around when I know I can wrangle my mom into taking them for me! The hardest thing is finding good indoor places to take them when it is snowing and miserably cold out, as around where I live as everything is so modern suburbia!

    1. I think it is indeed harder sometimes to find good spots for vintage outfit shoots - you can't really do the urban chic thing! So I empathise. Winter is really hard for blogging, I must remember to stockpile more winter looks in the months beforehand!! X

  8. I love gingham and have probably worn it every year since I was born! It's a great timeless look and it's just great for the spring and summer months. I have two dresses, one black and white which I made and a pink and white one I bought from Laura Ashley a couple of years ago and now I plan to buy a beautiful red and white one from Lindy Bop, so I don't think you can ever have enough!

    1. I know the Laura Ashley dress you mean!! I just picked up a red and white checked Laura Ashley top in a charity shop, think it was from around the same time as the pink and white dress x

  14. Lovely. I'm a fan of gingham. Like stripes or plaid, it's timeless. I like how it's a sweet pattern but in black and white, it's not sugary sweet :)

  15. I own a similar dress, almost identical style but mine is in a smaller gingham print. Love that sky blue cardigan over this. You have styled it beautifully both times. I must wear mine, soon.

  16. I think I remember the dress you mean Ada! The cardi is mint green but I suppose the sun makes it look blue? X

  20. That's a cute outfit - and that cardi was such a bargain! You do make some good finds.

I plan my shoots, mainly because it involves wheedling the Mr into taking the photos. The exception is when I'm at an event, as he'll usually take photos at those, so I know he'll get one of the outfits too.

    2. Nah, but he has a monster camera setup, so there's making sure the batteries are charged and the right lenses are in the bag and he can think of a location... I need to get more experienced with my self-timer so I can do it myself in the garden.

  24. Yes, I adore gingham. It is such a beautiful classic (and also makes me think of the school dresses we used to wear which I loved!) and it never dates. 25. This is such a cute look! I love the black and white gingham with the mint and coral, it's a very pretty combo.
I feel like gingham is pretty much always in for vintage lovers, but it does seem to come in and out in mainstream fashion. I remember looking for it a couple of years ago and coming up empty, so I'm glad it's more popular right now. I love it when mainstream intersects with my own interests, it makes shopping do much easier.

    1. Honestly Jessica, that's one of the main reasons that I still read modern fashion magazines occasionally, so that i know when things are 'mainstream' and then I can start keeping an eye out on Ebay and at charity shops!! I was so, so happy when midi skirts came back in. x

  29. I have always wanted a gingham dress but never found one that was me. I always laugh when fashion industry declares these silly trends since it's pretty much the same each year. This dress is stunning on you, it's looks tailored just for you and I love it with your new cardigan find!

As for pictures, I take mine each morning with in front of our house so I am not sure there's much planning. I would love to be more creative with my locations but there just is not enough time in the day for me to do that.

Thank you for joining TBT Fashion link up and hope to see you next week. Have a great weekend!
