Retro Festival was held on Newbury showground, and although you can camp for the weekend, we chose to buy day tickets in advance for the Saturday. There's something there for all ages (I went with a group aged 15 to 70!), with lots of vintage shopping, classic cars, an airshow, live music, dance lessons and more. Bearing in mind that nobody else really in my group is a huge vintage fan, there was certainly enough to keep everyone entertained.
My gorgeous nieces and soon-to-be bridesmaids!

The dress is by Hell Bunny, 'May Day' I think it's called, and I felt very smug when I found it in a charity shop for just £7. The parasol certainly earnt it's money, it was incredibly hot and I did catch the sun slightly despite the portable shade and factor 30. We didn't buy much, I wasn't in trying-on mood in such heat, but two of my sisters bought some lovely hats. Vanessa is modelling the feathered creation in the picture above. She's off to Goodwood so thought it would be perfect for that.
This last set of photos is by my lovely niece Georgina, thank you Georgie!
You'll have to excuse the brevity of this post, I am afraid that I don't have time at the moment to do an in-depth review. It's a shame as I have so much more to share with you, from the gorgeous country house hotel we stayed in, to our trip to DOWNTON ABBEY!! Squeal!! Oh, and I'm getting married in two weeks!!

Looks like you had a lovely time :) I wish I could go to a vintage/retro affair, I'd shop till I drop!
ReplyDeleteMay I ask where have you bought your petticoat? It looked so pretty and different compared to all of these fluffy tulle dreams.
I got the petticoat from a car boot sale, I think it's probably from a bridesmaid dress. x
DeleteYou can't beat a good Hell Bunny dress! Looks like a great day out and I didn't even know it existed considering it's not a million miles away from me.
ReplyDeleteYou were so lucky with the weather! Looking very glam on your day out - that dress in a charity shop; can't believe that! Good work. I can't believe it's only two weeks away now, so crazy!! xx
ReplyDeleteWow 2 weeks that's coming around so fast! Can't wait to see your pics after :). You look pin up perfection on that carousel!
ReplyDeleteThe carousel was my favourite bit of the festival, is that really sad?! I loved it, and it was only £2! Going round you got such a lovely breeze, which was very welcome on such a scorcher x
DeleteIt's a shame I didn't make this one as it's so close to me but it looks like you had a fabulous time. I can't believe it's only two weeks until you get married, that's come around quick. Can't wait to see the photos, and of course your lovely dress and veil. Have an amazing day!! x
ReplyDeleteThanks lovely! Haven't actually had time to make the juliet veil as planned, but meeting my friend later this week to have a last ditch attempt at cobbling something together!! Ah well, you can't do everything. xx
DeleteTwo Hen Do's, you're worth it!! ;) Looks like a fabulous time, great cars to pose with! The dress is gorgeous but I am very jealous of that parasol! Perfect accessory! Katie x

I'm so delighted by the name "hen party" - the American term is the oh-so boring "bachelorette party," and I really think yours is more descriptive. There's always so much cackling going on...
ReplyDeleteLove your dress, what an amazing find for the price! You look fabulous. That's a lovely petticoat too, so delicate looking while still giving you great volume. And I'm dying over your sister's hat, that's just beyond fabulous. It looks like everyone had a great time celebrating with you.
Good luck with all the final wedding preparations! I can't wait to see your dress.
What a perfect dress for such an event! And love the parasol! I especially love how perfectly you match that retro car in the top photo! So cute!
ReplyDeleteAbsolutely beautiful dress and parasol! You know, this lovely post reminds me that while I have done one or two of mine with umbrellas, I don't believe I've shot with a parasol so far. I don't have a lace one, but I do have two classic Asian style ones and it's high time I gave them their moment in the spotlight (errr, sunlight! :D).

Sounds like a fun day! Your dress is very pretty, I love the colors, and what a deal! I wish I could find such lovely things in thrift shops here, mostly it's just sad huge floor length denim dresses from the 90's! ick... anyways, I am excited to hear about your trip to Highclere, I'd love to go someday!
ReplyDeleteSo gorgeous in your dress! I love all the pics but especially the pics of you standing in front of that matching car, on the carousel, and doubly especially the last pic of you siting with your parasol! Looks like you had a great hen weekend! Looking forward to hearing about your trip to Downton Abbey!
