Flares and Clogs and Guitars

A more relaxed mood today, no flamboyant feathers.  Instead, a seventies' vibe with some Levi's, clogs, and my guitar.  Yes, that is my own personal guitar, but no, I can't really play it!  If I practice all day then I can just about get through a rendition of Hank Williams's 'I'm So Lonesome I Could Cry'.

I rarely wear jeans these days, so much so that a Christmas present that I'd hidden among the pile remained undiscovered until well after Christmas had passed.  I'd searched the house looking for the hidden present, but it was my husband who finally unearthed it from in between the little-worn jeans.

Clogs: Swedish Hasbeens
Jeans: Levi's
Rollneck: Uniqlo
Sunglasses: Vintage
Guitar: Gretsch Americana series, 'Wild West Sweethearts'

The unusual Western Levi's are from a car boot sale (I think around £6), and the clogs are Swedish Hasbeens, an unbelievable £4.50 as-new bargain from a charity shop.  A bargainous outfit overall!

Do you still wear much denim?  It seems to fall in and out of favour with mainstream fashion, but vintage rockabilly style has embraced it full pelt.

  1. I am watching you chop mushrooms in a cute denim dress as I write this - you are a denim rocker ;) I like seeing photos and knowing where in your house they were taken! Creepy comments out of the way, I still can't believe that shoe find. Jealous doesn't cover it! Very cool look, I don't wear any 70s really but your long legs were made for it xx

    1. Heh heh that does sound a little creepy!! But I know what you mean about being familiar with locations, it makes one feel one has secret knowledge! Xx

  2. I love the 70s vibe! I rarely wear jeans, only while I'm walking the coastpath in Wales! xxx

  3. I have to admit I don't like to wear denim, because it's not comfortable and I do prefer cotton dresses and skirts over anything else (except for home outfits). Here in Finland 99% of people still wear only jeans every day and everywhere with the exception of those who wear leggins as trousers...

BUT I have to admit that I wore jeans today! And I mean real jeans and not jeggins (which are sort of comfortable), my Collectif Monroe jeans. I wear trousers very seldom and jeans even less, but it was fun to wear my Monroes, because I've worn them like only three times before and I've had them for over a year. Since they are not skinny fit they feel more comfortable than regular jeans and the high waist works better with me than those low waist high street ones (although it digs into my tummy when I sit).

You look really pretty and truly 70's style especially with those sunglasses :) Those clogs are also gorgeous and such a find. As far as I know Swedish Hasbeens are usually really expensive :O

    1. Uncomfortable jeans are the worst, I have ejected a few pairs from my wardrobe recently as they sat too low and dug into my hips. I am yet to find the perfect retro high waisters! Thanks for your sweet comment, it feels a bit weird going more au naturel in terms of hair and makeup but I felt it suited the '70s vibe xx

  4. Super cool look! So jealous of your clogs, they are fab! I don't wear jeans much, but they do have their place for lazy days.

  5. I am sincerely jealous of your discount Swedish Hasbeens. I've been lusting after a pair for almost two years now, but they're just too expensive! I wish my charity shops had such amazing steals.
I love your rocker/hippie chick look here. I will never get tired of seeing you rock 70s looks - they are beyond perfect for you.

    1. I couldn't believe my luck, at first I thought I'd buy them at that price just to sell on, but when I realised they were my size I went a bit giddy!! I am fortunate to have two great charity shops 15mins from my workplace, so I occasionally use my lunch hour to scour the rails. Thanks for the '70s love! Xx

  6. GAH!!! What a deal you scored on those Swedish Hasbeens! They look like new!

I love your photo shoots lately. They all look so arty and editorial.

Love the guitar and those cool shades too. I'd happily steal this whole outfit from you.

    1. They literally were like new, hadn't been worn outside and the leather was as stiff as when it came off the production line! Thank you for appreciating my arty attempts, I have the most fun with doing these kinds of posts. Xx

  7. I really love this outfit, I love how relaxed but cool 70s looks like this can be. I'm a big fan of jeans and wear them weekly. I think I have some flared jeans that I should pull out of storage - you have inspired me. Such an effortlessly cool look. Oh and those clogs, what a bargain! x

    1. I think you could really rock some flares, I'd be interested to see you try them. I am not really a very cool person so thanks, glad I pulled it off!! Xx

  8. You are so great at looking just right in every era! I love this look. I feel very sentimentally attached to looks that I associate with my mother's youth. She'd probably love this! I'm a jeans-by-default person, myself, unlike many vintage lovers. I've never lost my love for them! But like you, I am a guitar-owner-who-can't-really-play-a-lot!

    1. Aw that's a nice compliment, I try and get the 'feel' of an era but it's a learning curve and it doesn't always turn out that great!! It's a shame I can't really play such a beautiful guitar but I will get around to it someday.. x

  9. I can't believe you paid so little for your clogs! What a great bargain!

  10. You really rock this look, I want those clogs for that same bargain! :)

  11. Oh, good price for those Hasbeens! I don't wear denim myself - I stopped some time around 1993, and now I'm convinced that being middle-aged and chubby I'd just wind up looking invisible in jeans, I need something smarter. Some of the rockabillies do look amazing in theirs, though.

  13. What a super cool outfit and you really suit the 70's rock chic look!! I own a fabulous red electroacoustic guitar which I have had since I was teenager with the idea I would actually get better at playing it, but I never have, its sure pretty to look at though! What an utter bargain for those clogs though, wow, I have been lusting after a new pair of for a while now but can't justify spending that much on shoes at the moment, I shall just have to keep a better look out at my local charity shops, just incase! xx

  14. Now that's one laid back bloke you've got. After 24 years I'm still not allowed to touch his collection of Gibson Les Pauls!!!
Tremendous score on the Hasbeens, they look fantastic on you. The 1970s vibe suits you well. I sold my last remaining pair of jeans (vintage bells) a few years ago as I never wore them. Like them on other people but they never made me feel special. xxx

    1. The Wild West Sweetheart Gretsch is my own guitar, so I am free to handle it. There are a few special ones my husband has that I'm allowed to touch under supervision only mind!! I know what you mean about jeans not feeling special x

  16. You nailed the 70's look perfectly. You look very much like my eldest sister circa 1975.
Thank you for the kind comment at my blog. I'm enjoying my look around your place very much-you have a great sense of style.

I'm too short to look good in jeans, but I have a few denim skirts.

  19. I must admit that I don't wear jeans v often as I find them uncomfortable but I've owned a few massive flared pairs over the years which I've adored! It all stemmed from my wAtching the 1970's Famous Five series and seeing them all decked in massive flares!!! HOW brilliant do you look in these pictures!!!! Like a band cover!!!

  20. I wear denim at least once a week.
I love how this outfit came together, totally feeling the vintage vibe and ... wow a bargain outfit indeed.

  21. I love the vibe from these photos and I am SWOONING over the guitar! And the one handing up.

And talk about score on the shoes!

With regards to denim, I still wear it a lot, but with summer fast on its wear in SoCal, I'm wearing it less and less.

    xoxo
