Coral and Tweed

Ah, the British staple that is tweed.  A classic tweed, be it a jacket, skirt, or whole suit, is a must for any vintage lover's wardrobe.

Usually reserved for Autumn, I realised I hadn't worn this jacket much over the colder months and was determined to make it work for Spring. We still need our layers here in Wales, but I chose a bright colour jumper to wear underneath. In the Autumn I usually go for dark berry colours, so this was quite the departure for me! The jacket's a bit quirky, it has slightly puffed shoulders and an assymetric front - it reminded me of a Vivienne Westwood one I'd seen, so I grabbed it when I found it in Primark of all places. Mind you, I spent a good few hours removing the faux leather elbow patches and the extra 3 redundant buttons from the front with my trusty stitch unpicker!

Scarf: Thrifted
Bag: Cambridge Satchel Company

Tweed has proven itself to be a versatile fabric over time, and has been worn not just for country pursuits and outdoor sports such as golf, but also for 'smart' wear.  Below are some tweed garments from bygone eras to give you some further inspiration for wearing this classic cloth.

Do you wear tweed?  Do you think of it as relevant to British style today, or do you think it belongs in the past?  I'd love to know what you think!

  1. I love the tweeds which were in vogue a few years ago which were blue or pink - probably not true "tweed". But even genuine tweed can have some lovely colours almost hidden in it which can be brought out by the right top or other accessories, as you did here.

    1. I know exactly the fabric you mean, a friend had a pink coat in it, it was sort of a cross between a tweed and a boucle. I do like the tweeds with flecks of brighter colours in, fortunately there's a whole world of tweed out there so you can find pretty much anything your heart is set on! Thanks for stopping by. P x

  5. What an awesome jacket! The asymmetrical front is just so cool, and it looks great with the coral. I used to wear a lot more tweed--this outfit makes me want to start up again!

  11. I LOVE tweed! It's such a hardwearing yet smart fabric. I have stashed a pair of tweed trousers; I wore out the behind but plan to turn the legs into a bag and hat.

That coral colour looks fantastic on you - a really good colour.
