Miss Fisher's Pyjama Party

I am a huge fan of the Australian series 'Miss Fisher's Murder Mysteries', set in 1920s Melbourne.  Played by Essie Davies, the fabulous Phryne Fisher investigates all kinds of murders, whilst being magnificently dressed and badly behaved.  She can fly a plane, speak a few languages, scale a building, shoot straight and drink you under the table, but I'm most envious of her rather glamorous nightwear.  As I've already confessed to my secret obsession with vintage nightwear, I thought I would do a shoot inspired by the marvellous Miss Fisher.  Oriental inspired pyjamas and a martini to accessorize seemed about right.  At the end of the party, the martinis have been drunk, but is Miss Fisher alone?

It was a lot of fun doing this shoot, I was encouraged after your lovely comments on my last self-portrait session.  It was the first time I'd used spot lighting so it was a bit of an experiment, but I'm pleased with the results.

Are you a fan of Miss Fisher?  And have you done much photography with spot lighting?  Any tips welcome!

  2. Wonderful photos, you've done a brilliant job with the photography. The print on your PJs is gorgeous.
A few American and Australian bloggers were raving about Miss Fisher last year, I watched one but it wasn't for me although her clothes were lovely. xxx

  6. Those are lovely pyjamas - very glamorous.

I do enjoy Miss Fisher; it's jolly entertaining and good fun. I even managed to get one of the books in Oxfam!

    1. I've had my eye on the books but our local libraries don't stock them. You'll have to say how you get on with it x

  7. Love these photos - you look SO glamorous! If you're managing to take these yourself, that really is impressive. In fact, you've inspired me as I am now contemplating getting some shots indoors with my Christmas tree once it's up - I'll be happy if they come out half as nice as yours here (after a lot of furniture rearrangement, of course) xx

    1. Thank you! The run of wet weather we had meant I was forced to try more indoors stuff! It's worth playing around with, especially if you have extra desk lamps or floor lamps you can move about. They help massively. Good luck x

  8. I don't have so much time to watch TV, but this show airs during the day so I've seen it on the tvs in the gym. Sometimes I have to stay a bit longer on the crosstrainer to see who the guilty one is ;)

  10. Very Miss Fisher, having seen some of the costumes from the last series at an exhibition earlier this year , you are spot on. I must admit I love the show for the costumes more than the content.

  11. Gorgeous shoot and set of pajamas. I love a tie waist on lounge wear like the one here. It gives some much needed waist definition to a type of garment that is often woefully lacking in that department (pjs, that is).

  12. I don't even know what spot-lighting is but now I totally want to try it. Love your absinthe glass. Love it all. And, yes, I love Miss Fisher too. After the last episode, I went on Etsy in search of tear-drop, onyx earrings like hers.
