The '60s give us so much to choose from when using those years to influence our style. At the start of the decade '50s trends continue for a good few years, giving us some of those lovely 'Mad Men' looks. Then as the decade progressed, colours became brighter, hemlines shot up and Twiggy, monochrome, Diana Rigg, folk, Mod, tie-dye and Pucci prints burst onto the scene. I tend to incorporate quite a few elements of '60s style into my wardrobe, so it has been hard to choose what the '60s brought us that I couldn't now do without!
White sunglasses
Perhaps white sunglasses alone don't constitute a 'look' but I was sold on them ever since I saw a picture of Audrey Hepburn wearing a fab pair. They work particularly well in a monochrome look, but I wear them with pretty much anything! See my original post here for more photos of this look.
Minidresses and boots
There is something so satisfyingly practical about minidresses and boots. It doesn't matter if it's cold, or wet, or windy (or all three generally in Wales), it's a look that will see you through. Hemlines are so short that they're covered by a coat - no soggy hems to dry out, or excess fabric caught by the wind. Platform boots keep your feet dry and warm.

Nightwear became a bit more playful in the '60s, with the arrival of the babydoll, in a cheerful array of coloured nylon. I have thrifted a selection of original nighties, and also the psychedelic dressing gown pictured below. It's fun, flirty and feels a bit younger than all that satin and lace that nightwear previously made use of.

I could go on about '60s style - I also love some of the folk/hippy styles that started to come in later in the decade - but the above picks are the ones I probably wear most often.
This post is my entry to become the face of the 1960s for the charity Oxfam, who are running a contest for vintage fans.
Hehe this is funny - I have a post that's not a million miles away from this one in my draft folder at the moment! It probably won't be up for a while, but it amused me that we don't list the same things! Which just goes to show how much cool stuff there was in the 60s - and some trends I've been waiting to see come back round again for ages... I was going to include oversized sunnies in my list, but realised I don't own a single pair and felt like a hypocrite! I've got to rectify that this year. I love your white ones!

Though '50s stuff is way more popular now than it was 8 or so years ago, so I think it's a bit easier these days anyway! xx

I'm glad I'm not the only one who sees the logic in short hemlines in bad weather, my husband thinks I should wear longer stuff in the wet and wind but I explained very recently that I don't want excess soggy fabric thank you very much!! I have never even thought to look in Poundland for sunnies, thanks for the tip, you know I love a bit of a bargain too xx
DeleteThe sixties will always have a place in my heart. I went through a real Mod phase in my mid-20s and tried to emulate the looks my mum wore during that time. She still had a few pieces left that she had made especially for her that I then wore and I still have her gorgeous emerald green suede coat which I adore and will never let go of.

DeleteWow, you can really rock a 60s look! Love the blue dress worn with that adorable hat. The 60s and 70s had some amazing mod printed loungewear, a lot of which are perfectly appropriate for wearing out and about, like that fabulous dressing gown. I could picture it over a mini skirt or shorts with high platform heels. Very nice find!

DeleteYes to all of this! Audrey in Charade is pretty much my 60s style icon - it's so mod and cool and fun. I've gotten really into clean, bright colored 60s shift dresses recently, they're so comfortable and easy to wear.
