I think the nightwear fascination started when I saw 'Bringing Up Baby' with Katharine Hepburn. In one scene she's wearing a sheer polkadot dressing gown whilst on the phone to Cary Grant, pretending to be attacked by a leopard. Ever since then, I've had a bit of a predilection for glamorous nightwear. My Mum let me wear an old knitted bed jacket of hers from the '60s when I was younger - powder blue, in the softest knit. I wonder what happened to it? Despite my little collection, my husband prefers to see me in nightwear of the '90s grunge variety, i.e. pyjama bottoms and a band t-shirt. There's no accounting for taste.
I was aiming for 'languid' in these shots but am not sure I pulled it off - I didn't have my tripod, my husband was fast asleep, and I have no remote, so there was lots of frantic running back and forth and constructing towers out of furniture because I wanted to capture that beautiful early morning light.

Of that's how these photos were taken, I'm really impressed!! A lovely set :) that last lilac one is especially gorgeous, I kind of want to start my own collection now :) xx
ReplyDeleteYou've got some gorgeous pieces - I think I have the same navy slip! I've got a couple of 1960s nightdress and peignoir sets, they ooze a mix of glamour and Carry On naughtiness, I think.
ReplyDeleteThe photos are great, you managed languid and lovely very well! xxx
You nailed languid so very elegantly here, sweet dear, especially in that last photo. You look wonderfully at peace and happy - just as one, ideally, should when sporting such gorgeous vintage lingerie.

What a fabulous collection! You look very elegant indeed, lovely photographs! Katie x

I can't believe that's how you got these shots they look proffesional! I have to say just the other night I was looking into starting my own collection, it's the glamour of those old films (and watching gypsy at the theatre). You have some gorgeous peices
ReplyDeleteVintage nightwear is really affordable too, and you can find lots of 'deadstock' still in the wrappers from the '60s, so it's a really great way to add a bit more true vintage to your wardrobe. Just no smoking in bed with the nylon!! xx
DeleteWhat a fun idea to collect nightwear! I often see them in vintage stores and at thrift stores and wonder who buys it.
ReplyDeleteI must watch that movie, it sounds funny. I'm always up for some fashion porn.
You are congratulated for managing to still look relaxed and calm in your photos considering how you took the photos.
My fav is the last frilly lilac one.
bisous
Suzanne
I think you did a good job capturing the mood that you were going for. At the very least, I certainly don't get "frantically running back and forth to push the button on the camera before trying to get into position," so there's that.
ReplyDeleteI love vintage nightwear, and I've also got a little collection of cute 60s nighties that are very nice to hang around the house in when I'm feeling decadent. I would love to see your hostess gown, though - I really adore that style, they're so fabulous.
Also, I haven't seen Bringing Up Baby yet, but I just got it on DVD from Netflix. I will have to keep an eye out for that scene.
Those are beautiful pieces - and the window lighting in the photos is fab. I've always been a bit fearful of vintage lingerie, though I should probably accept that that's why washing machines exist and the vintage crotch is nothing to fear.
ReplyDeleteThe only vintage lingerie I own is a 1920s set in peach silk satin which I bought back in the 1990s to wear to a fancy dress party. It's TINY!
A gorgeous series of photos. You've captured "languid" perfectly although I can image the chaos scampering about, getting changing and trying to keep quite while the old man slept!
ReplyDeleteWhen I went into hospital for a week to have my hip replaced I was in a state of utter panic. I always sleep naked and had absolutely nothing to take with me. I've amassed a huge collection of Babs Windsor nylon nighties, negligees and slips in the last 9 years ready for the next op! xxx
Gorgeous night gowns and beautiful photos. You look so classy in these photos, and I love the lighting <3
ReplyDeleteYou have beautiful collection !
ReplyDeleteGorgeous collection! All of these look so soft and flowy!
ReplyDeleteIt's fantastic to find a fellow vintage nightwear fan! I have a small collection myself, mainly from the 1950s and 60s, and I have a bit of a penchant for babydoll nightgowns. My problem is I never wear them because of my cat. He always like to sit on or just by me when I'm lounging in the evening and after he stuck his claws in one rather lovely nightgown I refused to wear them again so they don't get ruined!
ReplyDeleteI'm glad I'm not the only one that does that when trying to take photos of myself! I love the one of you looking out of the window, it looks like a genuine 1970s photo. xx
gorgeous collection! I often sleep in vintage slips (not too much lace, it itches me : > ), Thanks for linking up,
